haha yeah , mai kiasi, 1st time i reach bkk i only had a map, den tmd i think sit aeroplane sit until blur or wad, was at ratchada city hotel, wanted to walk out to hwaikwang mrt, tmd see map wrong, walk opposit direction, ended up in some stupid backlanes, with 6 dogs following me behind

and regarding the taxi case, actually the moment u open ur mouth and ask "HOW MUCH" or "GO XYZ PLACE, GOT METER?"
the taxi driver comfirm know u tourist and if u asked to go somewhere tat offers seafood/girls/beer/massage, 90% of them will try to steer u to thier joints so they can get some commissions,

what i think is , just smile and say never mind , just go to ur original destination

Frankly, 10% is overkill. Yours is suay experience. From my humble experience 4 years visiting bkk, most cabbies are generally ok. Sure, there are rotten eggs.

Just use common sense eg stay away from those taxis 'permanently' parked next to hotels, some popular spots eg Patpong. No diff from some hotspots back home eg Orchard rd. They will also try to pass on sexy looking pics/flyers for rub down joints etc. NEVER fall for this, even if your cab fare is metered. Kena chop2 at destination (can even wait for you after you done). Better off to just hail from passing cab.

Get hotel name card. Also ask reception or concierge to write down in thai name of place. :D

Even had this shortcut at old Don Muang airport (dun fall for the overpriced limo service with suited staff greeting you on arrival). Instead of joining the regular taxi Q outside + sirport surcharge. Go up to departures floor, and jump into cab just after unloading customers. Can get away with it even under watchful eyes of airport police/guards (thai tolerence for you).

regarding this MP paying commision to driver that drive us to MP, im a bit confuse here. are they marking up the price of ours to pay the driver the commission or they still charge us the same price and they pay the commission by the MP themself???

on my 1st visit there, i brought by a driver to cupidy, from the rate i checked in http://bangkok2night.com/, (not sure if it's updated) the price is 1800 BHT for normal, but i quoted by the ppl there for 2000 BHT & 3000 BHT category...

so, any bro that visited cupidy recently (feb-march 2007), what pricing are you getting? going alone or by driver?

because, if the commission didnt mark up our price, then im ok to let the driver to make some money by getting commission from the MP

if i'm not wrong, Cupidy is 1 of those joints that hire taxi drivers to pull customers into thier place.

Alternatively, i never had trouble with cab drivers pulling any stunts when i tell em to stop right infront of those Arpnam joints along ratchada ...

They add the commission to our price, thats y i even bother to mention it else i happy, driver happy all happy, but sadly thats not the case. But i have never been to any MP on new petchburi road so i dunno the exact list of MPs but i am preety sure all that practice this crap are within that sector. Never heard of such incidents in ratchada area MPs. I know mona lisa is the most famous for this crap, tons of taxi drivers will approach you with their brochure, it can be found on the site of bangkoktonight. I heard from someone years ago mona lisa was a class of its own but i heard now its nowhere near as good as some of the best.

I oso kena another case, took a cab from Soi Cowboy after 12 midnite. The driver recommended to go Embassy to take a look. He said look only, dunnit to call if u dun like, no harm looking, etc (same "sales talk").

Not in the mood 4 bonking, but not sleepy yet, & still new to BKK, so chin chai juz go take a look outta curiousity & 4 exploration sake. Somehow, I knew tat it's past the legal closing time of MPs. When outside the MP, it's dark outside, the neon lights were off, but can still see pple going in/out. I remember someone led me in, cant remember it's the driver or the MP staff. Inside, there's quite some pple, saw some gals, not my type / up 2 my standard, no mood 2 bonk anyway, so I juz turned & walked 2wards the door. Then suddenly, a man said in kinda serious/fierce tone, "Hey! Where are u going??!"

I juz turned & gave a smile, then opened the door & boarded the taxi. The driver asked me how was it, I said it's ok, but I feel quite tired now. But next time, if I want it, I know where to come! He then suggested taking me to another joint to see, but I told him I'm quite tired & juz wanna call it a day. He then passed me his name card & said can call for his service anytime. I juz said good & thank you! He drives me home in 1 good piece, we chatted happily on the way, him telling me where got wat "nice" joints, "playing a good & warm host 2 a visitor", hee hee.

Basically, in Thailand, juz be polite & smile as much as u can. Try not to say anything negative. So even if the business deal didnt go thru, at least tempers are kept cool too, everyone juz smiles & unpleasant incidents are simply reduced / minimised, everything goes on. The old saying goes, "If u have nothing good / positive to say, then not saying anything is better!"

Rule of thumb never tell driver u going to MP. Once they know, they will bring or recommend you those that pay comm. There are some MP who don't pay comm, so they won't bring u there.

1)Which MP is highly recommeded in here other than Poseidon.
2)Is there any way that i go there straight from BKK airport in taxi without paying for comm.

1) plenty around, whole stretch of MPs along ratchada (huaykwang station) is recommanded
2) i assume u mean from airport direct to the MPs and the comms u mean those Taxi comms when they pull u to thier recommanded joints, not taxi surcharge ?

those along ratcahda normally dont have taxi touters. well i never encountered one when going to those in ratchada.

Have to bring my lagguage along cos will be going to GF hse after that. Been to BKK so many times, never have a chance to go MP cos she will pick me up in airport everytime.

Anyway i would like to go to those MP ard Petchburi rd cos nearer for me.
Can recommd which MP in Petchburi. and rates if possible.

and anyway , petchuri is only 10+ baht worth of taxi ride away from ratchada. lol.
