Bangkok Riots So Far...
Kop kun mak krub to all the seniors & bros who support my reporting by upping my points & words of encouragement. I put together a pictorial essay of whats has happened so far in Bangkok.
Sunday when the fighting really started. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...psd6ca1be5.jpg http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps27cbe5c1.jpg The region and the world was watching the tragic comedy of Thai domestic politics. Just like how, I guess, some losers here zap unanimously to see this forum become stale and boring. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0a29dcbd.jpg At 6pm sharp on Monday both rioters and police stood at attention to the national anthem. Even monks and Spiderman joined the revolution at Government House. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps5dc22e17.jpg |
Bangkok Riots So Far...
After the National Anthem it was business as usual. Fighting into the night...
http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps5a2f173e.jpg Then early this morning calm returned to the streets. All fighting suddenly stopped. It was as if nothing of the last 2 days had happened. Police and rioters started packing up and cleaning the area. Government House (bottom picture), which rioters fought tooth & nail to get in, was unguarded http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps05587749.jpg Everyone become friends. Flowers, hugs and souvenir photos all around! http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa5e79057.jpg Even this tourist (below) joined in the happy mood! http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa8886442.jpg |

Just one day, I would have to go to Sirithon, I will go via Rama IX bridge. A bit longer, but will be there. Maybe just have to look out for Ministry of Culture.:p |
Re: Bangkok Field Report
The police even brought out their Charm Brigade! Can't imagine Sinkiepoor "ang chia" riot squad having a unit like this. Make Love Not War!
http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps94ea3fcc.jpg Suthep having lunch with supporters and an IV due to exhaustion. Rioters also queued for their free lunch and picnic on the grounds of Government House! http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps3a960be8.jpg This seems like a truce to respect His Majesty's birthday which falls on 5th December. At Police Headquarters at Rama 1 Road (at junction of the Erawan Shrine and Central World) razor wire and police in full riot gear on standby. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps926ac4a4.jpg Probably in anticipation of trouble from scores of anti-government protesters who have gathering there since early afternoon today. The calm before the storm? We shall soon find out. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/a...psabaa93d0.jpg In the meantime, there should not be any major trouble until after the 5th December. So it should be relatively safe to go out the next 2 days. Just make sure the chiong joints that you are planning to head to are open and serve alcohol because traditionally no alcohol should be served on His Majesty's birthday. Remember to check with your hotel staff, tune in to the news via TV, radio or your smart phone on the latest situation before you head out. Everyone have fun but stay safe! |

Bangkok is a stage where all the scenes of Thai politics are acted out. You have tragedy, suspense, action, comedy etc. just like Thai lakorn (soap opera). Only waiting to see the end of the show and who wins best actor/actress this Friday. |

Re: Bangkok Field Report
Arrived in BKK two nights ago. For those thinking of traveling to BKK...all is calm in most areas of the city. Suan Luang is where the main anti-govt. protests are and most of the tear gas tossed at the protesters by the police. The rest of the city is business as usual. Gonna check out a new girl named Vicky tonight at Erotika Queens...looks pretty hot.
