PARIS: French police opened an investigation on Wednesday (Oct 30) following the death of a man in his 50s after he downed 56 shots during a drinking competition.

The man, who was not named, was attempting to beat the previous record of 55 shots in a bar in Clermont-Ferrand in central France on Friday.

"He swallowed around 30 glasses in the space of a minute," a police source said. The man was driven home in a drunken stupor and emergency services took him in later that night.

He died the next day in hospital after falling into a coma and suffering a heart attack, his daughter, a 21-year-old student, said. The bar manager told local daily La Montagne that the man was drinking "much too fast" and he advised him to stop after the first 30 or so shots.

But the daughter disputed this version of events, saying it was only after the 56 shots had been consumed that he was told to go home. "My father died by his own hand but it was the bar that served him the drinks," she said.

She is waiting for the results of an autopsy carried out in the immediate aftermath. The daughter said she would sue the bar if it transpired there was negligence in the case.

Police said the manager could be charged with "not assisting a person in danger." The manager himself said he was "very affected" by the death but declined to comment further saying he preferred to explain the events to officials.

You want scare me arhh.. 56 shots is same 2 bottles. This guy has a death wish and died he did.
Our is very much leisurely lah..and no shots nor beer either..
Its very much a celebration night so while we intend to drink quite a bit..stupidity is not on the cards.

hahaha I know you not so stupid la! Just a friendly warning on excessive drinking!

I went a little over board last Friday and swear off alcohol. Then sunday kaki drink so I drink also! hahaha

I thought tis suppose to be abt Pattaya, about the 'Happening' there..no offend to some guys here, the forum shld stick to e topics. The last time I came accross a popular forum, where topics was side-tracked...result in ppl arguing & commenting one & another; the forum was closed:(

I Understand that SangSom & drinks may relate to Pattaya some how...but it is e same talk ablt Calsberl (popular) beer in Malaysia... Tiger beer in Singapore...Korean wine in Korea...Japanese liq in Jan... & not to forget MaoTai in China.

But in all...wat does tat got to do with happenings in those countries..I hope the contributors to e forum, can focus on e topics, this is wat it all about

If needed to talk abt wine/Liq/beer... Maybe shld discuss it over another forum...says..."Drinks of The World"

Unlike in the past samsters are a different breed.
Majority are contributing FRs and info but now it's the total opposite.
Without some TCSS you won't even see this thread on the first page of this International folder. :cool:

Do you guys noticed these post? There have been a few times when two or more gundoos say they are coming similar dates but too lazy to read and expect other to PM them. I wonder if they ever met? And if they did , maybe its the blind leading the blind?
