alas, man u's inspirational/talismanic capt days is no more, where is the next cantona or keane? the closest we have to a talisman is fernandes, who is the most consistent performer. rashford has some talismanic effect because if he isn't devastating, man u get devastated. but rashford is still inconsistent to be a candidate for capt. with fernandes as capt, my vote goes to martinez as vice cap, casemiro sometimes wear the armband but he's downhill. future potential capt can be ugarte?

yes the culture is strong, football clubs have close relations with the local community, and the manager and the players have to do some PR: sign autographs, take photos, visit schools, hospitals, charities etc, its part and parcel of the football life. clubs have youth system where they identify talents from young, and the fans have extra support for the local boy who made it into the 1st team. alot of pple are highly invested in their local football clubs, thats why there are loud support (newcastle especially :p), fierce rivalries (pool-everton, arsenal-spurs) and fan protests (everton board, glazers)

Man U was whipped 4-0 in the same fixture last season. In fact this year May 2024.
Jean-Philippe Mateta, Tyrick Mitchell, Michael Olise (x2).
Olise had since move on to Bayern.

Would be lucky if can escape with a draw.:p

A draw is not good enough after buying so many good players from the other famous clubs in the summer n bringing in Omar Berrada n Dan Ashworth, who r said to be outstanding executives charged with bringing the club back to it's glory days...if baldy can't beat palace he shd resign or be sacked

Agree...but victories against a promoted side (bottom dweller) and a 3rd-tier side doesn't mean the silver lining is here.
None of the signings had impressed me so far. In particular, De Ligt and Zirkzee. I do expect more from them.
So, your definition of "good players" is still questionable.
Lest not forget, they are discards from their previous clubs. :D

Sunday 12.30am match will be crucial. Can the Red Devils avenge that 4-0 mauling just only four months ago??

No, don't be mistaken ...definition of good players is not really from me...there r so many hype in the english football world like the pundits, commentators etc who say they r good...Yes, they r discards from their previous clubs but hope they can do well in this club,..yah, I m also not so impressed by them except that guy Mazraoui..they shd hv gotten proven goalscorers like Harry Kane or Ivan Toney if they really want to be the best team in the world once again

man u has better form than palace currently, and the squad won't want another thrashing, hope man u can win as rashford is getting more confident

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

FT : C Palace 0 - 0 Man U

Man U started off brightly and enjoy lion share of possession in the first half.
All the good chances....but perhaps it was ironic that it was their old boy Henderson who put in a Player of the Match performance to deny the Red Devils.

The attack fizzled out in the 2nd half and it was the Eagles turn to threaten.
But Utd were lucky as Palace forwards somehow left their scoring boots at home.
Botak throw in Rashford and Hojlund, but the goals just won't come.

No 3 wins in a row. :p

Just woke up n found everybody's predictions wrong except bro lacoruna...seems like Henderson, their old boy saved his team from defeat...also heard baldy made substitution errors again, didn't take Fernandes out when he was not playing well n substituting Amad instead of Garnacho but Onana made a double save to save them from defeat... understand also the butcher of Amsterdam slowed down the play a lot like aiming for a draw. ..

if bro lacoruna is right, then they got the same old problem again of being deflated n cannot last 100 mins of consistent football to win games...now dropped from 10th to 11th position....so wat shd baldy do ??

Anyone watched the match ??...it seems they went downhill once baldy started to make substitutions esp in the 2nd half n instead of making the team stronger they went weaker

frustrating to watch but didn't vomit blood :p, here are some addt'l thoughts:

1st wtf - ETH dropped rashford to the bench, a puzzling move as he scored in successive games. what was ETH thinking? think about fc twente and see palace no up?

2nd wtf - man u were so wasteful despite creating many chances, they should have gone ahead b4 the break if not for henderson heroics or poor finishing, overall a dominant display but only a point to show for it

3rd wtf - martinez's moment of madness when he challenged with both feet, a straight red if he made contact with opponent

corners - seemed to be some improvement in recent games, the set piece taker found his teammate but couldn't finish. like casemiro, de ligt has the ability to meet the ball during set pieces

palace attack - their chances were a result of man u allowing them space in the buildup, good thing onana was up to it

clean sheet - third in a row, a settled defence contributes to team consistency, its smth ETH can build on

UEL vs fc twente at home - a strong lineup and a win to start the EU campaign

That kumlan Captain totally miscued a few sitters.
Zirkzee did played well, but his temmates always wasted his efforts.

Maybe lose steam?? Not enough stamina....I guess.
Easily deflated as they see the ball not going in in the first half.
Another reason is Oliver Glasner decide he is happy with a point.
He threw in Lerma and Hughes, both more experienced midfielders, to beef up the park and sure enough, they start to see some results.
Coupled w botak taking off Zirkzee, who had been holding up and linking play upfront, w Rashford who practically don't do this kind of thing.

Thank You !!

Yah, surprise he dropped Rashford. Putting aside Henderson heroics, Man U just wasn't clinical as usual.
Zirkzee got some nice touches, but his teammates wasn't on the same wavelength as him.
