Elvis Suki and Maverick Suki

Open: Daily 4-11pm.
Phone: 02-223-4979 (Elvis Suki)
Address: 200/37 Soi Yotse (also written Soi Yotsa or Yosse on some maps).
How to get there: You find them close to the corner of soi Yotse/Phlap Phla Chai. You can follow Phlap Phla Chai from the big Charoen Krung in Chinatown. Elvis and Maverick are quite close to the big road Bamrung Muang (continuation of Rama I) that runs about 1 km north in parallel to Charoen Krung.

There are no Metro or BTS stations close to it. Hua Lamphong MRT and BTS National Stadium on the Siam line is the closest. Taxi from the MRT or the BTS is the easiest. An alternative if the humidity is low is to hit the road for 15 minutes through very local communities, coming from Rama IV/Charoen Krung or the intersection Charoen Krung/Yaowarat Rd.

If you’re into local transport alternatives you can take the bus 15, 47 and 48 from BTS national stadium to Hua Chiao Hospital which stops close buy. Bus 47 can also be taken from several places along Rama IV (all the way from Khlong Toei MRT station to Siam Yan MRT station) – from Rama IV it follows Phaya Thai Road that interlinks the parallel roads of Sukhumvit and Rama IV. Bus 48 can be taken at any stops along Sukhumvit Road.

Suki Haeng which basically is Sukiyaki without the broth. Starts at B50, seafood option comes at B70. They also have stir-fried egg and chicken noodles (B50), scallops with butter and ground pork (B150) sea bass grilled in banana leafs with a lot of lemon grass (B290).

The dish Suki Haeng is basically Sukiyaki (hotpot) without broth. In other words not a soup anymore. And in this competition, the two resto´s Elvis Suki and Maverick Suki stands out in Bangkok, with Elvis a birds head in front of its next-door neighbor Maverick. A performance that speaks for itself as this is something of a national dish.

The pork meat is marinated to absolute perfection; it just melts in your mouth. Extremely juicy with a smoky flavor. The fried woon sen noodles have a great consistence – not soggy, as they can be many places. The dipping sauce, a make or break for this dish, have a meaty and spicy flavor with lots of garlic. The overall taste is very rich. It comes with the usual spices on the side.

Krua Porn Lamai

Address: 64 Plaeng Nam Rd, Samphanthawong, Bangkok 10100
Opening Hours: 6PM – 2AM, Daily
Nearest Train Station: 1 minutes from Wat Mangkorn MRT station by foot.
Telephone: +66-99-249-5414

Walking through the many street-side food stalls in Bangkok is already an exciting activity for foodies, but Krua Porn Lamai is here to bring your food adventure to a new level.

Super famous with the locals for their signature “lava gravy” fried noodles, this shop had humble beginnings.

It first came to the bustling Yaowarat (Bangkok Chinatown) 25 years ago with only 2 tables. Now, they have around 20 to service their customers – this takes over most of Plaeng Nam Road! This really shows how popular the place has become.

Like many other street food vendors in Chinatown, the seating area here was situated on the pavements and street.

Although sharing the road with vehicles can be quite nerve-wracking, all the cars drove carefully around us, so there’s not much to worry about in terms of safety.

Our favourite thing about dining here was the view. We got to see rows of vintage buildings with Chinese neon signs at night, making the entire place seem vibrant.

Do keep in mind that you might need to wait for quite some time to get seated. We arrived early and noticed that most of the tables were occupied.

Since Krua Porn Lamai is located on the road that connects the nearby MRT station to Yaowarat Street, you can conveniently get a quick hot-pan meal before starting your Chinatown walk, where you can munch on desserts later on.

Or, you can drop by after all that walking around. It’s open till 2am, making it a perfect supper spot before heading home.

Getting there: From Thanon Saeree Thai Road, turn to Seri Thai Soi 7 alley. Drive until you see 7-11 store and turn left into Soi Nawamin 8 alley. The food stall will be on your left. Look for a stall with a gigantic bag of roasted peanuts and a bucket full of eggs.

Up for something unconventional? We suggest you try Ko Boo Rod Zing where your Tom Yum noodles will come with 2 perfectly soft boiled eggs.
After you break the eggs, the creamy yolk will literally ooze out into the soup, or coat the noodles (if you order no soup). This elevates the flavour to the next level.

You can order different types of noodles, toppings, and the level of spiciness as you wish. For those who love a good bowl of spicy noodles, order the “Zing Kam Koh” (direct translation: “Super Hot that Makes You Jump”). Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Ko Boo Rod Zing now has 5 branches throughout Bangkok, but the one we recommend is the original. It will get crowded after 6pm, and you might have to wait in queue but it’s totally worth it.

Patonggo Yaowarat

Pa Tong Go is actually what we know as “You Tiao or Fried Dough Stick”. You may ask me, why recommend this when it’s so common in Singapore? Well, read on you and will know why.

Well, Pa Tong Go in Thailand is a little different. It’s shorter in size and easily manageable with our hands.

This particular store in Yaowarat, Chinatown has been around for many years. Really, it was nothing special then. Apart from the normal “You Tiao”, they also sell it with kaya (pandan coconut custard) dip.

It’s actually a very simple snack, but Thais somehow just know how to make something so simple become delicious and beautiful. You can choose your preferred topping and they will just pour it over your Pa Tong Go! A good alternative if you want something different from “Roti”.

The Most Popular Street Food with Long Queues.

Yaowarat Toasted Bread is something you should not miss! It’s located just outside Government Savings Bank.

Look at the crowds! Majority of its customers are actually locals and since many tourists visit Yaowarat Chinatown, they of course will join in the fun and queue because the logic is usually like this: “Long queue = good food”.

Hungry and don't know what to eat? A heaping plate of khao pad (fried rice) is your answer, and you can’t go wrong with everyone’s favourite go-to dish. Good khao pad uses the fragrant Thai jasmine rice and is topped off with Thailand’s national condiment – nam pla prik kee nu (chopped bird’s eye chilies in fish sauce), a generous squeeze of fresh lime, and a sprig or two of spring onion. Khao pad can be made with any type of meat so when you order, you indicate what meat or meats you would like in it (or not). This famous food stall happens to specialise in using crabmeat and their khao pad pu (crab fried rice) is divine. Chang Phuek (White Elephant) is a symbol of auspiciousness and a fitting description of the delicious chunks of sweet white crabmeat in this comfort food classic.

One Of The Best Mango Sticky Rice, With Michelin Bib Gourmand.

Rice has special importance to Thai families, and usually appears on the table at almost every meal, even in desserts.

This iconic Thai dessert is made with glutinous rice, fresh mango and coconut milk, and eaten with a spoon or sometimes the hands.

When in Bangkok, the traditional Thai dessert mango sticky rice is everywhere, sold by street vendors to high end restaurants, in fanciful cafes presenting it in instagrammable fashion.

But some places simply stand out. One such place is Kor Panich, located near the Grand Palace and opened since 1932.

With its simple storefront and only two tables for sitting, you wouldn’t imagine it has achieved a legendary status for its mango sticky rice.

Made from a family recipe passed down for generations for over 8 decades, it is the only Mango Sticky Rice shop listed in the Michelin Bib Gourmand Bangkok.

They say this recipe even came from the royal kitchen, where the owner’s mother-in-law used to work.

Mont Nom Sod is an immensely popular Bangkok restaurant that serves toasted bread with different toppings and milk. That’s right, they specialize in all sorts of toast. But how does something so simple became one of Bangkok’s most famous Thai dessert restaurants? Let’s start with a little bit of history.

The History of Mont Nom Sod

Mont is the name of the restaurant’s founder, a chef with over 45 years of experience working in his bakery. In 1964 Mont started small, selling his delicious toast with milk (Nom Sod) on the street. Nom Sod is a common Thai dessert and you can find it throughout the country, but Mont’s quality was (and still is) outstanding.

Soon, Mont’s delicious dessert became so popular that his street-side cart wasn’t enough anymore and he opened his first restaurant called Mont Nom Sod on Dinsor Road, which became an instant success. The result: today Mont has three branches in Bangkok and one in Chiang Mai and they’re all regularly packed with locals.

Mont Nom Sod is a place where all Thai people young and old, families and friends, go to enjoy a simple, affordable and extremely tasty dessert. The toast is surprisingly delicious and I highly recommend that you give this famous restaurant a try. Mont Nom Sod can be found in our food application called TopTravelFoods. TopTravelFoods helps tourists find the best local food during their trip to Bangkok and the rest of Thailand.

The signature Hong Kong Stir-fried Noodles (฿100, ฿200, ฿300) is made up of chewy HK noodles made from wheat flour, bean sprouts, and our faves – juicy crabmeat and abalone slices.

The noodles were well-seasoned and were not too salty or oily. Plus, they were springy and had a good bite. It also offered a variety of textures, from the soft abalone to crunchy bean sprouts.

Aside from HK noodles, there are other dishes served here like Fish Maw Soup (฿100, ฿200, ฿300) and Hong Kong Stir-fried Abalone With Oyster Sauce (฿300,฿500).

Krua Porn Lamai is super famous with the locals for their signature “lava gravy” fried noodles.

The star of the show was definitely the fried egg that had a perfect runny yolk. Once it coated the noodles and was mixed with the gravy, the egg added an extra creaminess to the dish.

In each mouthful, we were treated to soft noodles, tender shrimp and squid, and boiled Chinese kale. All the different textures came together very well with the gravy.

Be warned – the sauce is pretty spicy, so pour it over your pan with caution

Another dish we had was Dry Sukiyaki Seafood (Regular: ฿70, ~USD2.32 | Large: ฿100, ~USD3.31), which was also served on a heated pan. If you want something to slurp on, you can also choose a soup version of this dish.
