Are u sure your martial arts friend taught u this? Given for me, I'm trained to attack his pressure points and no matter how big size the assaulter is, he will crumbled. Usually if u try to slip your hand into pockets, the opponent will get alarmed and assault u first before u can pull anything out from your pocket.
Yup try to avoid confrontations as we would not want to be in such situations.
