Re: Macau or Zhuhai

1) Macau Ferry Terminal to HKIA Skypier.

2) No need to book in advance.

3) Check in counters are usually open 30 minutes before departure time.

4) Travel time on ferry is approximately 60 minutes.

Not sure if they have finished the construction of the new Skypier building, if not allow more time than one is checking directly using road transport due to the following reasons (follow closely the time they post on the web site):

1) the current Skypier is like a temporary building - enough piers for the ferries to land but they do not have proper facilities/space within the building to retrieve the checked-in luggage (from the check-in ferry terminal in Macau). The last time I was there they were doing the retrieving on the corridor (lucky me only travel with hand luggage). Very messy esp. with all look-alike luggage (and worst if they are PRC tour gps due to some of their less than desirable behavior in crowdy place, only one word to describe - TMD 乱). Best if can hand carry your luggage to the ferry (like those luggage that could be hand-carry into the plane). If the ferry is quite full, best try to sit near the exit if time is tight for the flight. The building is quite small and the queue at the check-in counter at the building can be quite messy (watch out for queue cutter just tell them off they usually will back-off). You also get some money/rebate back after getting your ticket(another queue but usually faster than check-in queue but can be quite kan cheong if time is tight).

2) the coach from the skypier to the terminal is like 15-20 min ride esp. the coach travel slowly on a narrow perimeter road beside the airport. Then you have to wait and take the train within the airport to reach the hand-luggage screening/x-ray area before you reach the gate (probably add at least another 10-15 min depending on the crowd). As HKIA is like a Y-shape building, if your gate is at the end of the Y (higher no gate), good luck or start practising sprinting now or regret later.

Just my experience from not too long ago.
