Just like any hobby, there is a budget and balance sheet for it. If you are earning 10k and above set aside probably 2-4k for your expenses. You need to have the foundation for your future already laid before you get into any form of serious relationships  |
I like your view of paying yourself first. Good habit.
Spending 4k out of 10k on a hobby is quite distareous if you are just starting out. Housing should not take up more than 1/3 of your pay and transport should not take up 20% of your income. With that you should do fine. 4k is a bit too much in my opinion.
